Subject: Thailand tsunami survivor

Hi Fred,
I apologize
for not getting this to you months ago. I wish you a Happy New
Year and hope this finds you well and getting some sailing time
in.
All is well
with Dao and I. We missed the tsunami, luckily, as we were on
a ship docked in Cape Town. We got to Thailand 6 weeks later
to a lot of work which is still going on to this moment.
The catamaran
fared well for itself all on its own. The boat traveled with
the tidal wave 150 meters from the beach side of our property
to a inland canal and docked in some trees. The damage was so
minimal to the boat that the word is not really correct. We
know it took out the top concrete pipe section of a well and
it looks like it tangled with a tree or two by the stress cracks
around the top of the house. Luckily I had pulled the rudders
earlier as they had water in them.
My son and
his girlfriend came down and we did some minor work and sent
them off for a 7 day, 6 night Christmas cruise in the Phi Phi
Island area. The boat was perfect.
I put a new
8 horsepower Yamaha on it for the light air days. It worked
very well. I made a bracket that fit in the port swimstep.
I'm sending the few pictures I took during a test sail.
Take care,
-Randy

Boat Design: Lucky
The inspiration for Lucky comes from the canoe yawls that were
so popular at the beginning of the twentieth century. I have to
say, in all due modesty, that this is one very elegant little
rowing boat! Lucky is very stable and forgiving due to its modest
size rig and generous beam. Under sail or oars, the fine lines
of the Lucky allow it to glide through the water with very little
effort. Row or sail, Lucky is nimble, easy to maneuver and will
surely charm. Learn more...

Within these pages you will surely find the boat of your dreams, offered
to you in affordable options: SAILBOAT KITS, ROW BOAT KITS, FINISHED
BOATS, or BOAT PLANS. We are especially proud of our customers, who
through the twenty plus years we've been in business, have built over
800 Shell Boat sailboat kits and rowing boat kits. Many of our customers
have enjoyed building these boats with younger family members, further
helping to pass on from one generation to the next the traditions and
legacy of boating. Our boats are sailed the world over and it warms
our hearts to know how universal is the love of sailing!
Our intention
has always been to provide our customers with safe boat kits for use
on the many bays, lakes and rivers available for exploration, relaxation,
fishing, and good ol' family fun. Our car-toppable, or easily trailered,
boat kits afford boating opportunities for today's situations and certainly
make an outing which includes boating easier to accomplish. Our own
six children have grown up with our boats, and you can be sure all of
our designs have been thoroughly family tested! Improvements made over
the years reflect our determination to build our sailboat kits and row
boat kits with the utmost attention to safety, durability and excellent
sailing qualities.
We welcome your comments and greatly appreciate a photo of you and your finished boat. If you find yourself in beautiful Vermont please stop in for a visit to our shop as there is almost always something interesting being built, and we enjoy meeting our clients.
Fair Winds,
Fred Shell

under construction and sailing under various conditions, accompanied
by amatuer acoustic guitar. Such a deal for this 100 minute low-budget
extravaganza!
And our complete catalog of boat designs can be ordered for $5.00.
